    About:A colossal man-made reservoir built by King Parakramabahu the Great in the 12th century to make the kingdom self-sufficient in agriculture. Actually five tanks linked together — Thopa Wewa, Erabadu Wewa, Dumbutulu Wewa, Kalahagala Wewa, and Bhu Wewa — creating one of the largest ancient irrigation systems in the world. Covers approximately 2,500 hectares. Built on the king's philosophy: "not a single drop of water falling from the sky should flow into the ocean without serving the people."
